Industrial Casters Wheels

Polyurethane Polypropylene Nylon Rubber Industrial Casters & Wheels for Sale

There are many types of industrial casters and wheels for sale. According to the caster materials, there are several types of industrial castors. That is, PU polyurethane caster, PP polypropylene caster, nylon caster (PA/HPA), rubber casters and wheels (ER/TPR). In addition, there are also metal castors, such as cast iron, stainless steel, etc.
Of course, industrial castors and wheels have different structures. So there are swivel castors, stem casters, plate castors, v groove casters and wheels. Some casters are with brake (locking). But we usually choose the industrial casters according to the load capacity. Therefore, there are light duty, medium duty, heavy duty and extra heavy duty castors.

Load capacity of casters and wheels

How much weight can an industrial caster handle? In fact, different castors, different weights they can handle. According to load capacity, there mainly four types of casters. That is, light duty, medium duty, heavy and extra heavy duty industrial castors.

(1) Light duty industrial castors and wheels (90lbs to 200 lbs)

There are many light duty casters for sale. Of course, they are mainly the small industrial casters. The diameter is mainly 2 inch, 2.5 inch, 3 inch. And castor loading capacity is from 90 lbs to 200 lbs. That is from 40 kg to 90 kg. This kind of castors are mainly PP polypropylene, PA nylon and PU polyurethane caster.

Light duty castors are mainly used for tool carts, trolley, furniture, medical equipment, small industrial machine, etc. So it is not suitable for heavier weight. Otherwise, the castors can be easily damaged.

(2) Light medium duty casters and wheels (200 lbs to 300 lbs)

These castors has a bit higher load capacity than above. It is suitable for 200 lbs to 300 lbs weight. It’s namely from 90 kg to 136 kg.

The presence of light medium duty casters brings great convenience to people’s lives. Industrial castors take the burden off workers when moving machinery. Using them is more convenient and saves effort. Application: light weight handling appliances, office furniture, small display tables, rolling ladders, etc.

(3) Medium duty industrial casters and wheels (300 lbs to 1000 lbs)

The load capacity of medium duty castors is higher light duty casters.They can carry the items from 300 lbs to 1000 lbs weight. That is about from 136 kg to 453 kg. You can choose the PU polyurethane caster or PP polypropylene castor. Of course, there is also PA nylon castors for choice. In addition, the medium duty casters are also usually made of rubber material.

The normal sizes are 3 inch, 4 inch and 5 inch. This castor has wider applications, such as shelves, trolleys, laboratory equipment, machinery and equipment, conveyor, AGV handling robots, etc.

(4) Heavy duty caster wheels (over 1000 lbs)

The load capacity is relatively large. In fact, the load capacity of heavy duty castors is relative. There are no clear boundaries. It generally starts at a load capacity of 1000 lbs and goes up to higher loads. Even there are 2000 lbs, 3000 lbs, 4000 lbs and 5000 lbs industrial casters.

Usually it uses thicker materials and better bearings. This greatly improves the impact resistance of the castors. So heavy duty castors can load heavy machinery and equipment. And most normal caster size is 6 inch.

Our industrial casters quality control

The use of industrial castors in machinery and equipment is very important. The environment in production workshops is often particularly complex. This is why the requirements for the materials are also relatively high. The casters raw materials generally require a high level of impact resistance and strength. Polyurethane castors, for example, meet these requirements. They need to meet various standards and tests. Our caster wheels pass strict several quality tests.

① castor hardness test

Here mainly inspect the hardness of various caster materials. It needs to check the hardness of caster tyre treads and hardware such as bearings, brake pads, steel balls, etc.

We use a Shore A rubber hardness tester. Press it vertically onto the surface of the tyre. The hardness is the reading where the needle is stable for more than 3 seconds. For example, our 03 series PU polyurethane castor needs to meet hardness between 98 to 100 (Shore A).

② Load testing

Take simulation of the actual use. Test the load-bearing walking performance of various caster models. They are also checked for wear and tear. Castors work as the mainstay for moving furniture and equipment back and forth. Inevitably, they wear out and age. So their lifetime directly affects the normal use of furniture and machinery.

There are two types of tests: one is obstacle test and another is no obstacle test. Place industrial castors correctly on the test platform. Each test caster is loaded with 300 N. The test frequency is (6-8) times/min. A test cycle consists of a back-and-forth movement of 1 m forward and 1 m backwards.

Take 5,000 tests on H-type castors on a platform with obstacles. or do 30,000 tests on a W-caster. Test H-caster 70,000 times on a horizontal bench without obstacles. Or test 20,000 times on a W-type caster. No castors or other parts are allowed to detach during the test. At the end of the test each caster should be able to perform its normal function. At the same time, the caster’s rolling, pivoting or braking function shall be normal.

③ Impact resistance test

Any item may be subject to collisions and vibrations during transport, use, storage, etc. This can lead to products that may be damaged or even unusable for a certain period of time. Furniture and machinery are large and heavy. They tend to be more susceptible to impact. Therefore industrial casters and wheels should have good impact resistance.

The castor impact test method is as follows: the industrial castors are mounted upside down vertically on the ground test platform. Use a heavy object with 5KG. Drop it freely from a height of 200 mm and impact it on the wheel edge of the caster. No part of the castor is allowed to separate during testing. Besides, its functions should be intact after test.

④ Industrial castor salt spray corrosion test

This is mainly to test the corrosion resistance of the surface of the hardware. It usually use the salt spray tester. Prepare a 5% sodium chloride solution. The test temperature is 36°C. Take continuous spraying on the surface of the caster hardware for 24 hours.

Acceptance standard: the surface of the test sample must be clean. Free from oil, breakage and temporary protective layer. In fact, the main purpose is to check the surface corrosion. For galvanised or nickel-plated castors, if reach GB 6461-2002 round dot diagram grade 4, test is qualified. If it is a chrome-plated or painted caster, a grade 6 or above on the dot plot is qualified.

Different types of industrial castors

Different braking devices, different industrial castors. We can classify castors into three main categories. That is, castors mainly include three types: fixed castors, universal casters and brake castors.

Fixed castors are not with a rotating structure. So they can only move in a straight line in a set direction. Universal castors, as the name implies, can rotate at will. The rotation direction is not restricted. This is why they are also known as movable castors. The brake caster is even more functional. It also involves a brake while ensuring that the caster can rotate in all directions.

In general, these three types of industrial casters are often used together. Like a normal trolley, universal casters work as the rear wheels. And fixed casters work as the front wheels. For mobile beds in hospitals, brake castors are used for the rear wheels. At the same time, fixed castors work as the two front wheels.

In addition, different mounting types, different castors and wheels. There are the following classifications: rigid castors, swivel casters, plate casters, stem mount castors, locking casters, etc.

(1) Rigid casters

The rigid castor is also called fixed caster. It has no rotating structure. Therefore it cannot rotate. Like the swivel castors, they help to save labour. But it can only go in a straight line. The advantage is that the castors are fixed in their orientation. This prevents the problem of disorientation that can be caused by four castors turning at the same time. Increase the speed of travel. However, when turning, the rigid industrial castors are not as casual as they could be.

They can walk fast. This kind of wheel is not prone to directional drift. Because the left and right directions are locked, you can only go forward or backward. Additionally, rigid casters are adaptable to uneven surfaces. So you can use them outdoors.

(2) Swivel casters

Swivel castors are also namely universal casters. It is the most common type of industrial caster and wheel. The rotating caster is also what we call a universal wheel. Its construction allows for a 360 degree rotation. So it can turn in any direction. It is particularly flexible and at your disposal. Avoiding the shortcomings of just walking in a straight line.

This rotating castor can turn sensitively in a flat plane. It is worth noting that the turning radius with the brake is different. But when walking fast, it tends to produce directional drift. This in turn leads to poor linear movement. The swivel castors are suitable for flat surfaces. They are generally used in more indoor conditions. Swivel casters of the same type tend to cost more than rigid castors. Because they are more complex to plan and have more functions.

(3) Plate castors

Plate caster is the most common mounting type. It has a square or rectangular mounting plane at the top. It usually uses 4 bolts and a metal plate to connect the wheel and equipment. Its load capacity is generally greater than the stem mounted caster. Because 4 mounting holes can share the weight of this equipment. Therefore, when needing industrial castors for heavy duty industrial demands, top mounting casters are often the first choice.

The frame shell and top plate all adopt one-time forming technology. So it has high efficiency, load, strength and impact resistance. Of course, plate casters are also divided into many types. For example, there are plate rigid casters, plate swivel casters and plate castors with brake.

(4) Stem mount industrial casters & wheels

The stem castor differs from the plate caster. It has a rod at the top. This industrial castors also include several types. Some rods have threads on them. Others have no threads on the rod. Namely, there are threaded stem casters, expanded stem casters, spring-loaded stem castors, etc. We can insert casters directly into the installation. The assembly is more flexible and easy. When installation, it must use spring shims to prevent loosening.

Compared to plate casters, the load capacity of stem casters is relatively small. This is because the load bearing point of stem castor is only one. For example, we need to choose castors for a control cabinet. If the load-bearing requirements are not high, you can choose the stem castors. But if need to push the cabinet for a long time, it had better to use plate castors. This is because the load-bearing capacity of plate castors is sufficient.

(5) Locking casters with brakes

Locking castors are casters with brakes. The function of the caster brake is as follows: when it is at rest, it needs to be positioned for the object of work. Different working environments, different brake designs.

There are several types of brakes for castors. According to the braking part, there are side brakes and top brakes. The side brake is the one that acts on the edge of the wheel. It realizes the brakes by rubbing the industrial wheel surface. The top brake is the one that acts on the wheel center. Braking occurs by controlling the distance between the wheel center and the bracket.

Besides, there also include the single and double brake. Single brake, i.e. there is only one brake. Usually it brakes the wheel. The double brake, i.e. not only brakes the wheel, but also controls the rotation of the carrier.

The importance of the brake caster: high reliability and stability. Compared to other braking devices, brake castors are less prone to failure. Moreover, they are easy to repair and replace. The brake wheel is also easy to operate. It is simple and straightforward to operate. We can stop industrial casters by simply pressing the brake with the foot.

(6) Leveling castors

The leveling wheel is a multi-functional caster. It is mobile and stationary in one. It is suitable for scenarios where foot support and leveling is required. There are various types of leveling castors. The most common is the Forma wheel.

This type of industrial caster applications are below: support workbenches, heavy frames, mechanical equipment, etc. At the same time, it can move the equipment. This facilitates handling. It can fix the equipment in the designated area by rotating the adjustable gear. Both the movement of the equipment by rolling the castors and the fixing function by means of the supporting feet are possible. It is very easy to operate.

Features of the leveling industrial castors:
① They are suitable for use in scenarios with irregular horizontal surfaces. Possibility of horizontal adjustment for correction according to the specific situation;

② These castors are suitable for equipment that does not need to be moved for long periods of time. It can adjust the height according to requirements. We can fix or move equipment for free.

③ Its load-bearing capacity is higher than that of ordinary swivel casters. It’s suitable for frame or platform systems that engage in load-bearing capacity requirements.

(7) Shock absorbing caster

The shock absorbing casters adjust to uneven ground. This is due to their special structural composition. Rubber shock-absorbing castors use rubber as a cushioning material. Spring loaded castors use springs as cushioning. The rubber blocks include rubber and polyurethane blocks. There are many different types of spring damping. There are single and double springs.

The working principle of the shock absorbing caster is as follows: the kinetic energy of the object vibrating is transformed into the elastic potential energy of the elastomer. There are fluctuations in the elastic potential energy. This slows down the vibrations and damage to the machine parts during transport. So it ensures the safety of the loaded objects. The anti-vibration casters are in a stable working condition. Industrial castors use excellent silent bearings. It has excellent rotational properties.

(8) Groove casters & wheels

Grooved casters include V-groove and U-groove castors. They are mainly used for guided travel on rails. 90° V-grooves ensure precise contact with the rails. It facilitates linear walking and directional control. The V-groove leaves a sufficiently wide wheel surface on both sides. Thus, it ensures that the industrial castors can still move on a flat surface after leaving the track. Grooved wheels are mainly metal material. Of course, there are also polyurethane casters and rubber castors.

Caster materials for choice

Industrial casters are available in a variety of materials. Accordingly, it includes PU polyurethane caster, PP polypropylene castors, PA nylon casters, ER natural rubber castors and TPR super artificial rubber casters. There also include metal castors, such as iron and stainless steel casters. Below is a table comparing the performance of various caster materials.

In general, nylon and polyurethane are hard materials. TPR and natural rubber are soft materials. Different castor hardness are suitable for different floors. Soft floors are suitable for hard wheels. And hard floors are suitable for soft wheels.

(1) PU polyurethane casters

Polyurethane castor is the most common material. The PU caster has a moderate hardness. It has a silent and protective effect on the floor. In addition, the wear resistance and resistance to sewage are outstanding. So we usually use them in environmental protection and dust-free industries. The coefficient of friction of polyurethane on the floor is relatively low. This is why the noise factor is low during use. PP castor has become the first choice for many environmental protection industries.

PU is also namely spring rubber. It is a kind of elastomer between plastic and rubber. It has excellent overall performance. This is something that ordinary plastics and rubbers do not have. PU casters are widely used in medical, food, office, factory handling, storage and logistics, machinery manufacturing, etc.

(2) PP polypropylene castor

Polypropylene casters have cheap price. PP casters are resistant to oil, acid and alkali. Common organic solvents such as acids and alkalis have little effect on it. However, many of its properties are not as good as those of PU castors.

Firstly, the loading capacity of PP castors is less than that of PU casters. Secondly, the wear resistance is relatively poor. PP castors are widely used in factory handling, warehousing and logistics, equipment manufacturing and other industries.

(3) PA nylon industrial castors

PA caster is a nylon castor. It is made up of a polyamide-based resin. The colour of nylon castors is pale yellow or milky white. Nylon is a polymer material, so PA casters have many advantages.

It has high mechanical properties and good toughness. Nylon caster has a high tensile and compressive strength.
Heat resistant and can be used at 100°C for a long time. In addition, the heat deformation temperature of HPA castors can be over 250°C.
Corrosion resistant, very resistant to alkalis and most salt liquids. PA castor is also resistant to weak acids, motor oils and petrol. However, it is not resistant to strong acids and oxidizing agents.

PA casters are less effective than PU castors in terms of noise reduction.
Nylon casters are widely used in factory handling, warehousing and logistics, equipment manufacturing and other industries.

(4) Rubber industrial caster wheels

Rubber castors are also used more frequently. Rubber itself is elastic. It has good anti-slip properties. Rubber has a high coefficient of friction with the ground. So it can move steadily and safely when transporting goods. They are widely used indoors and outdoors. The wheel surface of the rubber caster protects the ground well. At the same time, the wheel surface can absorb the impact caused by the movement of objects. As a result, rubber castors are quieter in movement.

Compared to PU castors, rubber wheels have less load capacity. Moreover, it is not easy to contact organic solvents for a long time. Otherwise, it will reduce the performance of rubber casters.

ed precise position positioning, you can choose a stepper motor or a servo motor.

What size casters do i need

Small belt conveyors are generally modular in design. So it’s very simple to install and disassemble. In addition, knowing the operation process is crucial to how to maintain the miniature convey

The conveyor belt is already connected well. Above all, set the support plate into the mini conveyor belt. Then, put the active roller and the driven roller in sequence. Afterwards, fix the 2 sets of guide rails on both sides.

How to select a right industrial castor

The industrial caster is a simple component. But choosing the wrong one can be tricky. The purpose of the caster is to facilitate handling. Choosing the right castor for your application and environment is vital.

(1) confirm the load-bearing weight

For castors of the same diameter, manufacturers generally produce several series. This allows them to be used for different load-bearing weights, such as light, medium, heavy duty, etc. The way is to make the wheels and brackets available in different thicknesses or materials.

In order to calculate the required load capacity of each caster, we must know the below weights. That is, know the weight of the transport equipment and objects. Of course, we also need to know the required castor quantity. The load capacity of a single wheel or caster is calculated as follows: T = (E + Z) / M x N;
T = the required load capacity of a industrial caster & wheel;
E = the weight of the transport equipment;
Z = weight of the moving object;
M = the effective number of loads carried by the wheel;
N = safety factor (approx. 1.3 – 1.5).

This calculation method increases insurance factor. Therefore, it’s more reliable. Prevents inadequate load-bearing, which can lead to a significant reduction in caster life or cause accidents. In general, we select the industrial castor according to the load-bearing capacity of 3 casters.

(2) what size casters do I need?

It also needs to confirm size when choosing castors. Generally speaking, the larger the caster diameter, the less thrust is required. At the same time, the friction on the ground increases as the contact area increases. The larger the diameter, the easier it will be to push or move your object. However, too large caster size will also result in too high a load or an off-center of gravity. Too large an eccentric distance will also reduces the load carrying capacity of the caster. Common industrial castor sizes are 2″, 2.5″, 3″, 3.5″, 4″, 5″, 6″, 8 inches, etc.

In addition, the width of industrial caster wheels will affect the load carrying capacity. Therefore the wider the caster, the more weight it can bear. If you are moving machinery or other heavy objects, you will need to consider using wider castors. If the load is lighter, for example on a work cart, you may want to choose a narrower caster. Many wheels are designed with a curved surface. The purpose is to reduce the contact area with the ground. They are usually available with “flat” or “rounded” edges.

(3) choose the right caster material

There are many options for caster materials. We should be fully aware of how the castors will be used and the application environment. Choosing the wrong wheel can lead to excessive wear and tear. So it will lead to more castors and more costs. Industrial castors should be flexible, lightweight and durable in use. On flat surfaces, hard materials are more flexible to turn. But on uneven ground, soft wheels are less strenuous.

Rubber castors:
Move softly and quiet;
Cannot be suitable oily environments;

PU polyurethane casters:
It can roll on most surfaces;
Performs well in oily environments;

PP polypropylene castors:
Price is relatively cheap;
Suitable for use on carpets and most surfaces;
Can be suitable for many chemicals;
Relatively low load-bearing capacity and noisy;

TPR casters:
Soft and flexible wheel surfaces;
The main advantages are eco-friendly and silence;
But the price is more expensive;

Castor bracket selection:

Industrial castors are available in both rigid and swivel. Usually we use the two types of casters together. The bracket material is generally carbon steel. Of course, apply various plating, such as galvanizing, copper plating, nickel plating, chrome plating etc. Stainless steel is also available.

The most common colors of caster brackets are silver and black. The silver color is achieved by plating with a layer of zinc or chrome. This gives the bracket a silvery color. The black ones are generally electrophoresis treated. This makes the bracket black.

(4) Cater bearing

There are several bearing types for industrial caster wheels. Namely, Terlin bearings, roller bearings, ball bearings, needle bearings and flat bearings.

Terlin bearings: It is special engineering plastic. It is suitable for all kinds of harsh environments, such as cold and heat, dry, wet and corrosive. And durable.

Roller bearings: industrial castors can carry heavier loads.

Ball bearings: suitable for higher loads, low noise levels and flexible rotation.

Needle roller bearings: particularly suitable for support structures where radial mounting dimensions are restricted.

Plain bearings: suitable for castors with high and very high loads and high speeds.

Double bearings are applicable in high-end castors. They are more stable, silent and have a higher load-bearing capacity than single bearings. Single bearings do not offer the same performance as double bearings. But the price is cheaper.

(5) Application environment of industrial castors

Many casters cannot be used in high temperature situations. Therefore, we need to be clear about the temperature range of each caster material. If use them at higher temperatures, they will usually lose their rigidity. This can lead to excessive wear on the industrial casters. In addition, it also consider the temperature range of the castor bearing. PU polyurethane casters can turn freely at -30°C. High-temperature resistant HPA casters can also move easily at temperatures up to 270°C.

On rough floors, should use the castors that are resistant to wear and have good elasticity. For example, we can choose the rubber, polyurethane or TPR industrial casters wheels. Elastic rubber wheels are very suitable for places such as hotels, offices. This is because it makes little noise when rolling. Nylon and iron castors are suitable for sites with uneven floors. Pneumatic wheels are suitable for light loads and where the surface is soft. In addition, some places require protection against static electricity. It is best to use special anti-static wheels. If in a clean room, ensure that the castors do not create marks on the floor.

(6) Installation of industrial casters & wheels

The installation connection of castors mainly includes two types. One type is the screw stem caster. The other type is the plate castor. The former has a threaded rod in the middle. For installation, need to process threaded holes at the end face of the aluminium profile. Then fix screw stem caster onto the end face. If there is no central hole, we can finish this with the aid of a connecting plate. It is also necessary to determine the mounting hole spacing and diameter of the caster base plate.

① Install 3pcs swivel casters

This mounting combination is suitable for handling drums and small equipment. It has good operability. Superior to four-wheel mounting methods of the same size.

② Install 4pcs swivel castors

This type of installation offers flexible rotation. It is possible to change direction freely even in tight spaces.

③ 2ps swivel casters and 2pcs rigid castors

If the rear two wheels are swivel, they can rotate easily. This is suitable for long distances and for roads with slope.

④ Install 4pcs rigid industrial castors

This is suitable for long straight transport of heavy equipment. Not for use on sloping working surfaces.

Applications of industrial caster and wheels

Industrial castors play an important role in the manufacturing industry. The manufacturing industry often requires the movement and handling of large machines, raw materials and components. Industrial castors are widely used in this industry. This is because they are able to move heavy items easily while protecting machines from damage.

The logistics and warehousing industry is also an important application field for industrial casters. This industry requires a great deal of moving and handling work. For examples, operate the loading and unloading of goods, the movement and handling of shelves, etc. We usually install the castors on shelving, trolleys, handling equipment and transport vehicles.

The healthcare industry is also an important application for industrial castors. For example, install casters on surgical beds, medical equipment and mobile cabinets. We need move and handle these devices frequently. At the same time, need to ensure their safety and stability. This is why the use of industrial casters is so important.

The retail industry is also application field for castors. For example, install them on shelves, display cabinets and shopping trolleys. They help to move and display goods easily. And at the same time increase efficiency. In addition, casters are also widely used in the furniture industry.

Caster wheel manufacturing process

Firstly, the designer will create the caster drawing as requirements. Secondly, the caster manufacturer will select the appropriate material, such as polyurethane, rubber, nylon, etc.

Production of industrial casters wheels: moulding, injection molding, extrusion, stamping, clamping, painting, assembly, etc.

① Injection molding part: baking – blanking – injection molding – take wheel out – trimming – cooling – assemble bearings.

② Hardware part: opening blanks – pressing – drilling – forming – heat treatment and plating.

The following is the introduction of the industrial castors production process. Illustrate it with the swivel casters.

Firstly, stamp the steel plate to size to form a sheet. At the same time, punch round holes out of the sheet.

Secondly, put the stamped sheets on the punching die. Stamp it into a bowl-shaped disc. In addition, punch the holder and the brake sheet into shape.

Thirdly, put lubricating oil in one circle of the bowl disc. Afterwards, put in the steel balls of the caster. The number of balls must not be enough. Then assemble the bracket to the bowl disc.

Fourthly, the bracket is fitted with oil and balls. You can also put in ball bearing.

Fifthly, fit the retainer and washers. Using a hydraulic press the small bowl disc. And rivete it to the holder. The steel balls will also be sealed together.

Sixth, melt the rubber in the machine. The press it to form the rubber wheel through the mould. Afterwards, remove the burrs on the rubber wheel. Of course, industrial castors are also available in PP, PVC, PU and nylon.

Finally, fit the shaft ring in the central hole of the rubber wheel. Use a screw to connect the rubber to the bracket. Next, fit the screw cap. In the end, test the caster on the machine. So the industrial caster is ready.

FAQ

  1. 1. How to identify the material of industrial castors?

Here is a simple way to identify industrial caster wheels: the “burning method”. That is, identify the material by flame, smoke and smell, and ash.

Polyurethane (PU) casters are flammable. When burning, there is a faint white smoke. And melts easily. No irritating smell. There are sticky filaments.

Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) castors are easily combustible. While burning, there is a thick black smoke and an irritating smell. Burning without sticky filaments. After combustion, the surface is black carbon powder.

Polypropylene (PP) castors are easily combustible. There is a faint plastic smell. When burning, the surface melts evenly. And there are sticky filaments.

Nylon (PA) casters are not easily combustible. When burning, there is a smell of burnt hair. After burning, the surface has a blistering appearance. And there are sticky filaments.

High temperature resistant HPA castor: The burning condition is the same as PA material. However, there is a white powder on the surface after burning.

However, the PVC small conveyor belt has a strong odor when burning, and becomes hard material after burning.
